Though in the past writers have attempted to compare Catfish Haven to Neil Young or The Jayhawks, they are true originals, with a sound all their own.  With gorgeous soaring melodies, imposing vocals by singer-songwriter George Hunter, the rich, resonant guitar picking of Miguel Castillo, the solid drumbeat of Ryan Farnham, and a spirited sense of musicianship - the August 3rd outdoor performance by this alt-country-rock tinged jam band was one of the highlights of Schubas' Summer on Southport festival.

Madeleine was a hard-driving tribute of a love song, Paper Thin, with it's opening refrain "don't lose sleep, don't lose sleep, don't lose sleep over me," was a howling a passionate plea, with crisp two-part harmonies and an instantaneous hook that screams classic.

Other tunes, like Crying Shame and more, were melodic, straightforward and passionate, revealing a band not at all afraid to rock, and not the least

bit unsure of its own identity --- full of promise and talent to spare.  Keep an eye on Catfish Haven - the best is yet to come!
