Though a little rough around the edges, The Pages, a young group with a demeanor reminiscent of the early days of the Fab Four (but with a completely different sound), rocked the house on the final day of Schubas' Summer on Southport 2003.

With their performance pushed indoors due to threatening weather, they appeared a bit nervous, and also seemed to have a hard time connecting with the audience.  The sound quality was rough as well, maybe due to the sudden change, and it could be that this added to their nervousness.  It certainly did a job on their vocals, which at some points became completely buried in the noise.

Despite these challenges, the tunes in general had a catchy beat and the musicians were very energetic.  You'll Never Know was an upbeat number that made me get up and dance.  But In contrast, Justin's Sang was relaxing and sweet, but frustrating because of the garbled vocals.  Other songs like What A Shame and Colorful Revolution went a  long way to

highlight the potential of this young and talented band. Hopefully next time, a few extra minutes spent in a sound check would make the show a whole lot more enjoyable.  These guys can really play, and maybe with time and more experience they'll join the legion of rock 'n' roll greats!
