THE WALKMEN

Though originally from Washington DC, The Walkmen are now an established part of New York's punk (or should I say semi-punk) revival.  Lead singer-guitarist Hamilton Leithauser of both golden looks and golden voice, is the ideal front man for this edgy, yet somewhat polished, quintet.

With a powerful intro & bass run, the band began a non-stop riveting set of scorching rock tunes with soaring instrumental solos, pointed lyrics, quirky melodies, and Leithauser's howling, sometimes pleading vocals - which shined especially bright on tunes such as the syncopated Revenge Wears No Wristwatch.  At times, though, the sound was deafening - no matter how far away I got from the amps.  And yes, it was an outdoor performance, but yes again, the value of a proper sound check is priceless!

Nonetheless, the band's live presence is compelling and energetic, with the musicians' artful use of both white and dark noise lending expansive, atmospheric overtones.  Look for the buzz about

this band to gain momentum, and watch for greater things to come!
