Washington Social Club is one of the hottest bands to come out of D.C. in a long time. This energetic threesome rocked the house at Schubas Summer on Southport, the night of August 1st with a riveting indoor performance.

Front man Marty Social reminded me of  Mick Jagger with his enthusiasm, and demeanor, although their music had more of a pop/punk sound. His guitar had a “smooth California” rhythm at times but was generally raw and machine-gun fast.

The pulsating sounds from Olivia’s bass compliment Randy on the drums to give Washington Social Club a unique beat that straddles the border between power-pop and punk.

Although they’ve just released an 8 song EP, to really appreciate Washington Social Club, you are really missing out if you don't find the chance to witness their energy on stage.

With song titles likNew Jersey MallsAre You High?, Charlie (an outstanding, high-energy number) and  Dead Kid, you can't help but love these guys!.

After seeing Washington Social Club at Schubas' Summer on Southport 2003,  I’ve now added them to my “don’t miss” list If you enjoy live, high energy original music, you should too!
